What a private chauffeur in NYC means at RydeBack
A private chauffeur in NYC usually arrives with a car of their own. RydeBack arrives as a pair, and one of the two is there for your car. Chauffeur 1 takes your keys and drives your vehicle, whether a Maybach, a G-Class or a vintage roadster, to the garage, townhouse or country house you choose. Chauffeur 2 drives you and your guests in a RydeBack car. The evening ends with everyone home and the car exactly where it belongs.
New Yorkers find us under several names. Some want a personal driver in NYC for a night when they would rather not drive. Some want to hire a driver in NYC to take the car out to Long Island. Others search for a designated driver in NYC after a benefit or a long client dinner. All of these are the same service, and our private chauffeur service for your own vehicle page explains it in full.
New York pricing is two chauffeurs at US$125 each per hour plus US$5 for every kilometer of your trip. The clock runs from our garage and back to it, with three hours as the floor and half-hour steps after that. Because the hours already include the chauffeurs' return, the return distance is never billed. The smallest booking is US$750 before kilometers.
From a Lincoln Center curtain call to your own garage
Here is how a typical Manhattan night runs, step by step.
- Booking. Reserve by phone on 1-877-860-3388, by email to support@rydeback.com or through the chat button. Online booking opens soon, with a two-hour minimum notice. You pay the full fare up front; no deposit is held.
- Before the night. Both chauffeurs' names and photos reach you ahead of pickup, together with your private handover PIN.
- Where the car is. In Manhattan your car is rarely at the curb. It is more often in an attended garage near the theater, restaurant or hall. Give us the garage and claim details and we retrieve it with you, or meet you at the door of Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall or the Met.
- Custody begins. Your PIN is matched first. The key goes into a numbered, signal-blocking Faraday pouch, and chauffeur 1 records a full photo and video walk-around before driving off.
- The drive. You ride downtown or uptown with chauffeur 2. Chauffeur 1 takes your car directly to its destination. Both cars show live in the RydeBack web app, and email or SMS confirms each step: chauffeurs assigned, en route, keys secured, departed, arrived and keys returned.
- Delivery. The car is filmed again on arrival and parked. If your building has a doorman or garage attendant, the key goes to the person you named, against your PIN, with a signature and photo for the record.
Two other modes exist. You can ride in your own car with chauffeur 2 trailing behind, at no extra cost. Or you can send the car one way and yourself another. Both are laid out on the service options for your evening.

Private chauffeur NYC prices: routes, hours and ranges
New York traffic decides the hours more than distance does, so every example is a range. Hours run garage to garage; kilometers cover your trip only.
- Lincoln Center to a Tribeca loft or an Upper East Side townhouse: 6 to 10 km inside three hours, roughly US$780 to US$800.
- US Open at Flushing Meadows to the Upper East Side, with a standby window for a late match: 13 to 20 km over three to four hours, roughly US$815 to US$1,100.
- Teterboro to Central Park South: 15 to 25 km in three hours, roughly US$825 to US$875.
- Midtown to Alpine, New Jersey, over the George Washington Bridge: 30 to 35 km over three to three and a half hours, roughly US$900 to US$1,050.
- Manhattan to Greenwich, Connecticut: 50 to 60 km over three and a half to four hours, roughly US$1,125 to US$1,300.
- Manhattan to Bedford in Westchester: 65 to 75 km over four to four and a half hours, roughly US$1,325 to US$1,500.
- Manhattan to the Hamptons: 145 to 175 km over five to seven hours, roughly US$1,975 to US$2,625.
Bridge and tunnel tolls and Manhattan congestion pricing are estimated and included in the fare you see before paying. Gratuity stays optional and goes wholly to the two chauffeurs. To price your own addresses, open the instant New York quote.
Hamptons weekends, garage to garage
The Hamptons run is the longest regular trip we make from the city, and it shows why garage-to-garage hours matter. Both chauffeurs set out from base, collect you and your car in Manhattan, drive the length of Long Island and then return together. All of that time is in the hours. Only your own trip, city to house, is charged by the kilometer.
A Friday departure can sit at the top of the five-to-seven-hour range, while a mid-week or early Saturday start often lands near the bottom. We quote the hours before you pay, and you can adjust the pickup time to bring them down.
- Split mode: you and your guests ride out in the RydeBack car while your own car follows to Southampton, East Hampton or wherever the house is.
- Car goes alone: if you fly out or take the train, use the different-destinations mode. Chauffeur 1 delivers the car to the house and returns by taxi or rideshare. That fare is estimated in your upfront price and settled to the receipt at cost, capped at 25% above the estimate.
- Sunday return: the same in reverse, bringing you and the car back to the city at the end of the weekend.
If you only need the car moved, without riding along, see how to hire a driver to drive your car long distance.
Local rules, handled.
- New York DWI limit is 0.08.
- Manhattan congestion pricing and bridge and tunnel tolls are estimated in your price.
- Passenger journeys in the second car are operated by a TLC-licensed partner.
Greenwich, Westchester and Alpine estates
Outside the city, handovers look different. Estates in Greenwich, Bedford and Alpine tend to have gated drives, multi-car garages and staff who receive the car. A few notes help us get it right.
- Gates and codes: garage and gate codes are stored encrypted and revealed to the chauffeur only once the trip starts.
- Who takes the key: you, a house manager, a family member or a key safe. The release happens against your PIN, with a signature and photo.
- Where the car sleeps: tell us which bay, whether to plug in an electric car, and whether the car should be left on the motor court instead.
- Country roads at night: unlit lanes in Westchester and North Jersey are a good reason not to drive yourself after a dinner in town.
The full Key Custody Protocol for your vehicle applies on every one of these trips, and your before-and-after inspection files stay in your vault for 12 weeks.
Teterboro, Westchester County and the cruise terminals
Private flying around New York centers on Teterboro and Westchester County, with Republic Airport on Long Island handy for trips further east. Westchester County sits right on the Greenwich line, which makes the return home short. Many clients drive themselves to the private terminal and let chauffeur 1 take the car home after departure. On the way back, we meet the aircraft: you ride home with your party and your car follows behind. JFK, LaGuardia and Newark work the same way.
At the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal or Cape Liberty in Bayonne, disembarkation day comes with luggage and a car that has sat in a port garage for a week. Chauffeur 2 takes the bags and you, chauffeur 1 takes the car. The marinas at Chelsea Piers and along the Hudson are handled in the same way after a day on the water.
Arriving into Grand Central, Penn Station or Moynihan Train Hall with your car parked nearby? Same plan. For flights, hotels and onward ground travel, our limousine and travel desk can arrange the rest of the trip.
Gala season, the US Open and Fashion Week
New York's evenings revolve around a dense social calendar, and each one asks something different of a driver.
- Met Gala season and the spring benefits: late finishes, black tie and after-parties. A standby window means you tap "Bring my car home now" when you are ready rather than guessing an end time.
- Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall: opening nights and patron dinners, with your car collected from the nearest garage.
- US Open at Flushing Meadows: night sessions can run very late. Leave the car parked and let us bring it back to Manhattan or Long Island.
- New York Fashion Week and the Tribeca Festival: several venues in one evening. Give us the order of stops and we size the hours to match.
- Madison Square Garden: concerts and games with heavy exit traffic, where a standby window removes the guesswork.
For a host who wants several guests covered, the designated driver service for groups and events explains how multiple chauffeur pairs are booked together.
New York rules: DWI, tolls, congestion pricing and licensing
New York's DWI limit is a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.08, and the state publishes its penalties on the New York DMV page on alcohol and drug violations. Research from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is a reminder that judgment and reaction time fade before anyone feels impaired. The simplest answer is to book the ride home before the evening starts.
- Licensing: the passenger car, chauffeur 2's car, is operated by a partner licensed by the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission.
- Tolls and congestion pricing: bridge and tunnel tolls, and Manhattan congestion pricing, are estimated in your price.
- Winter: supercars on summer tires are not driven in snow or ice. We will suggest the split mode with the car left secure, or collected on a clearer day.
- Cancellation: a full refund 72 hours or more before pickup, 50% inside 72 hours, and nothing for a no-show or once the chauffeurs are dispatched. See the cancellation terms.
- Cleaning and insurance: a US$250 to US$350 cleaning fee applies only if a vehicle is soiled, charged after the trip with photographs. Commercial insurance is arranged for the service, with details confirmed at booking.
For family offices, hotels and companies in New York
Many New York bookings are made by someone other than the person riding. Family offices and executive assistants can book, track and receive updates for a principal through delegate access. Hotel concierges can offer RydeBack to a guest who drove in and should not drive out. Companies entertaining clients in Midtown can run trips from a prepaid corporate wallet with cost-center invoices. More detail is on our page for family offices, hotels and corporations.
Every chauffeur we send is approved for the city, background-checked and driving-record-checked, interviewed, and assessed on a supervised drive. High-value and exotic cars are matched only with chauffeurs from our professional tier. You can read how our chauffeurs are vetted before you book.

New York questions, answered.
How much does a private chauffeur in NYC cost with RydeBack?
You pay for two chauffeurs at US$125 each per hour, garage to garage, with a three-hour minimum, plus US$5 per kilometer of your trip. A Lincoln Center to Upper East Side evening of 6 to 10 km in three hours comes to roughly US$780 to US$800.
Can I get a personal driver in NYC who drives my own car?
Yes. Chauffeur 1 drives your own car to your garage or home, and chauffeur 2 drives you and your guests in a RydeBack car. If you prefer, you can ride in your own car and have chauffeur 2 follow.
How do I hire a driver in NYC to take my car to the Hamptons?
Call 1-877-860-3388, email support@rydeback.com or use the chat button. Allow five to seven hours garage to garage for 145 to 175 km, roughly US$1,975 to US$2,625, depending on the day and time you leave.
Is there a designated driver service in NYC for people who want their car home too?
Yes. That is exactly what RydeBack does. Read how our drive-my-car-home service works, then book the New York pair by phone, email or chat.
What is the difference between a private chauffeur in New York and a car service?
A car service supplies its own vehicle and leaves yours where it was parked. A RydeBack private chauffeur in New York drives your own vehicle home while a second chauffeur drives you, so both you and the car finish the night where they belong.
Do you collect cars from Manhattan parking garages?
Yes. Give us the garage name and claim details when you book. We collect the car with you or meet you at the venue, then seal the key and inspect the car before driving.
Who is licensed to drive me in New York?
The passenger car in New York is operated by a TLC-licensed partner. Your own car is driven by a RydeBack chauffeur who has passed city approval, background and driving-record checks, an interview and a supervised assessment drive.
Are tolls and congestion pricing included in the price?
Yes. Bridge and tunnel tolls and Manhattan congestion pricing on your route are estimated and included in the price you pay up front.
Can you meet my plane at Teterboro or Westchester County airport?
Yes. We meet you at the private terminal. You ride home with your party, and your car is driven home separately by its own chauffeur.
