A private chauffeur service for the car you already own

Most people searching for a private chauffeur service picture a black saloon turning up with someone else's car and someone else's taste in music. RydeBack turns that picture around. Your chauffeur arrives without a vehicle of their own and drives yours: your seat settings, your sound system, your child seats already fitted, your documents in the glovebox. You hire the driver by the hour, as directed, and keep the car you chose.

A second RydeBack chauffeur comes too, in a RydeBack car. That second car is what makes the arrangement work at the end of the day. Once your own car is parked and the key is handed back, chauffeur 2 collects chauffeur 1, so nobody is left looking for a ride and their journey is not billed on top. During the day the second car can also carry guests, colleagues or luggage on a different route from yours.

How our private chauffeur service works, hour by hour

1. Share the outline. Give us the start address, the first appointment and as much of the day as you know. Stops can change as you go.
2. Handover at your door. Both chauffeurs arrive together. Your PIN is matched, the key goes into a numbered Faraday pouch, and your car is filmed and photographed before it moves.
3. As directed, all day. Chauffeur 1 drives you in your own car. Chauffeur 2 follows in the RydeBack car, close enough to step in if plans divide.
4. Waiting is part of the booking. While you sit in a meeting, a fitting or a long lunch, the hours are already running, so there is no separate waiting charge and no clock-watching.
5. End of the day. Your car is parked where you want it, filmed again, and the key handed back against your PIN. Chauffeur 2 then drives chauffeur 1 away.

If the day finishes with your car going one way and you another, choose the different-destinations mode: chauffeur 1 returns by taxi or rideshare, with that fare estimated upfront and settled at cost, capped at 25% above the estimate. All three modes are summarised under service options.

A personal driver service earns its keep on days that would otherwise be spent hunting for parking or watching the clock. Common bookings include:

Hire a private driver who is vetted for your car

When you hire a personal driver for your own vehicle, what matters is who they are and how they treat the car. Before their first booking, each RydeBack chauffeur clears city approval, a criminal background check, a driving-record check, an interview and a supervised assessment drive. Exotic and high-value cars go only to our professional tier, so a Ferrari, a long-wheelbase Maybach or a car with a manual gearbox is driven by someone assessed for that kind of machine.

Custody is documented, not assumed. Your key is sealed in a numbered, signal-blocking pouch the moment we take it. A photo and video walk-around is made at handover and again at the end, and the files are kept in your private evidence vault for 12 weeks. A day with a private chauffeur, in practice

Picture a Thursday in London. Your chauffeurs meet you at home in Belgravia at nine. The key is sealed, your car is filmed, and you are on your way to a ten o'clock meeting in the City. While you are inside, chauffeur 1 stays with your car and chauffeur 2 waits nearby in the RydeBack car. Lunch is in Mayfair, where a colleague joins you for the afternoon. A fitting in Knightsbridge follows, then a school pickup. You are home by six, the car is filmed again in your garage, and the key comes back to you against your PIN.

Booked as nine hours garage to garage, with 60 to 80 km of driving across the day, that comes to roughly £1,940 to £2,015 before tax. Nobody hunted for a parking space, nobody paid a pound in waiting fees, and the car never left the care of a vetted chauffeur.

A few practical points make days like this run smoothly. At your first booking we confirm that you own the car or are authorised to use it, using its registration document and your photo ID. While your car is on the move, our operations team is alerted to speeding or a lost signal. Tell us in advance about anything particular to your vehicle, such as a gearbox quirk, a charging routine for an electric car, or where the spare key lives, and it is added to the chauffeurs' brief.

Private chauffeur service cost: hourly rates and full-day ranges

Two chauffeurs are billed per chauffeur-hour, garage to garage, with a three-hour minimum and half-hour steps beyond it. A per-km rate covers the distance you travel and nothing else; the chauffeurs' own travel is already inside the hours. Estimated tolls are included.

• Toronto: CA$180 per chauffeur-hour, CA$7 per km.
• Miami and New York: US$125 per chauffeur-hour, US$5 per km.
• London: £95 per chauffeur-hour, £3.80 per km.
• Dubai: AED 460 per chauffeur-hour, AED 18.50 per km.

For a full day of 8 to 10 hours garage to garage and 60 to 120 km of driving, expect roughly:

• US$2,300 to US$3,100 in Miami or New York.
• CA$3,300 to CA$4,440 in Toronto.
• £1,750 to £2,360 in London.
• AED 8,470 to AED 11,420 in Dubai.

A half day of 4 to 5 hours covering 30 to 50 km in Miami or New York comes to roughly US$1,150 to US$1,500. All figures are before tax. You pay in full when you reserve, with no deposit. Cancelling 72 hours or more before pickup brings a full refund; within 72 hours, half is refunded; after dispatch or for a no-show nothing is refunded. Sometimes the right answer is not your own car. You may be visiting a city where your car is not, travelling with a larger party, or simply prefer a limousine for the occasion. For those days, the RydeBack Limo & Travel Desk arranges chauffeured limousines and black cars through BlaakLine, and flights, hotels and resorts through BookingWorldwide. It is a separate booking from a RydeBack, with its own pricing, and it suits trips where there is no personal car to look after.

• Choose a RydeBack when your own car should be part of the day, or has to finish it at home or in a garage.
• Choose the Travel Desk when you are travelling without your car, need a larger vehicle for a group, or want a stretch limousine for an occasion.
• Combine the two when, for example, the Travel Desk handles your outbound flight and hotel, and a RydeBack brings your own car to meet you at the private terminal when you fly home.
